Oracle SQL Developer: Receiving message “enter the full pathname for java.exe” on Windows 7/ Windows vista

I received the following message repeatedly when trying to start SQL Developer from my installation of Oracle Database 11g Enterprise: Enter the full pathname for java.exe.

No matter how many times I browsed to the correct path, I kept being presented with the exact same dialog box. This was in Windows Vista, and the solution was to right-click on the SQL Developer icon and select “Run as administrator” and pointed  same path where java was installed (E.g., c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_12\bin\java.exe)

It works on Windows 7 as well

I tried this in windows 8, but its not working. I displays a message “Cannot find J2SE SDK at path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\java.exe”

    • Hi Vimal,

The location of java you mentioned is wrong. Java will be installed on C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) or whichever location you would have chosen while installing java (if your DB is on Windows 64-bit).

      Thanks,
      Naveen
